We live in a world where narratives are constantly being shaped for us through headlines, trending posts, filtered reels, and curated stories. From the moment we open our phones to the time we close our eyes at night, we’re surrounded by someone else’s version of the truth. That’s why it’s more important than ever to be our own media.
What does that mean, exactly? It means taking control of the story. Telling it how it really feels. Speaking truthfully about our own lives, our own struggles, our own healing and not waiting for permission to be seen or heard.
For so long, mainstream media has acted like a gatekeeper deciding whose stories matter, which perspectives get highlighted, and how people like us get portrayed. But those days are shifting. Now we have platforms. Now we have podcasts. We have blogs. We have video. We have the ability to document, create, and publish our lives in real time. That’s powerful.
When we become our own media:
• We stop waiting to be validated.
• We stop watering ourselves down for mass approval.
• We start showing up as whole people not just highlight reels, not just the digestible versions.
We all carry experiences that someone else needs to hear. There’s power in the unpolished. There’s healing in the raw. And there’s connection in the truth. Being your own media doesn’t mean you need a million followers or a studio setup. It means speaking with intention. It means taking up space. It means creating with care.
You might think, “What do I have to say that hasn’t already been said?” The answer: your story in your voice. That’s the difference. No one can tell it like you. No one has lived your version of the truth. And that truth can liberate not only you…but the person listening, watching, or reading.
So this is your sign. Start that podcast. Post that video. Write that blog. Share that poem. Record that voice note. You don’t need to go viral to be valid. You don’t need to be perfect to be powerful.
Be your own media. Because the world doesn’t just need more content…it needs more truth. Your truth.
Yes! Thank you. “you don’t need to go viral to be valid” that’s the part I needed to hear.
