Josephine Baker: The Woman Who Danced Defiance into Legend

In today’s moment in Women's History, we will highlight Josephine Baker, born on June 3, 1906, in St. Louis, Missouri, and who passed on April 12, 1975, in Paris, France.

From a childhood of hardship, she soared to become Paris’s dazzling sensation, her performances alive with rhythm and rebellion. In World War II, she risked everything as a spy for the French Resistance, smuggling secrets beneath her stage smiles. She then built a family of twelve children from around the world (calling them her beloved Rainbow Tribe) and stood tall for civil rights, showing the power of love across every divide.

Her legacy still moves us to dream bigger today.

Remember…Education is FREEdom of mind and never should be colorblind.
