Angela Davis: Warrior for Justice

In today’s moment in Women's History, we will highlight Angela Davis, born January 26, 1944, in Birmingham, Alabama.

This brilliant scholar and activist rose as a powerful voice in the Black Power and feminist movements, blending Marxist ideas with an unshakeable fight for racial equality and prison abolition. In 1970, authorities charged her with conspiracy after guns registered in her name were used in a dramatic courtroom hostage attempt to free the Soledad Brothers. She spent 16 months behind bars, sparking a global “Free Angela” campaign that drew support from everyone from John Lennon to everyday folks worldwide. A jury acquitted her in 1972.

Davis later became a professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz, wrote books that still shape conversations on race and class, and never stopped pushing for real freedom.

Remember…Education is FREEdom of mind and never should be colorblind.
