CLIFF NOTES 2017 (MLK)
Today, we celebrate a leader who marched, fought and loved us enough to do what it took to blur the color lines of segregation in America. However, no matter how we sugarcoat it, I believe that racism still exist, maybe not as big as it was prior to the Civil Rights Movement, but we've come a long way, and there is still work to be done. A couple of years ago...I hosted a poetry venue and spoke on the topic of Dr Martin Luther King Jr. leading into intermission commenting as such: Black History (BH) as I (and many) have found that you must study/research BH...to know BH. While some may read, there are others who do not. Therefore, if looking for visual cliff notes or an entertaining way to understand the story of MLK and Malcolm X...watch the X Men movie series. I remember eyes widening amongst the masses as I continued to speak...In the movie you will find the opposition of views between MLK (Professor X) and Malcolm X (Magneto), which are similar storylines of both leaders. 1.) Mutants (blacks) segregated from humans (whites) 2.)both were friends, no matter their differences of beliefs...3.)Malcolm (eye for an eye)...MLK (make peace)...etc., hopefully, this paints a slight picture for all who read this post. I'm no genius, nor do I claim to know more than the next, but to pass on anything to help others learn...I'm 100% for it. I remember walking away that night and going home to research as I was curious about the storylines of both fictional characters to find that its original creators had patterned their storylines after MLK and Malcolm X. (Sigh of relief to back my claim as I'm not into selling false thoughts 😃). A huge thank you to Dr. King and those who led protest from John Lewis to many others and for believing in unity amongst us all. Alive or deceased...they are all the real MVPs and showed the true meaning of "lives matter" no matter the risk or endangerment (corrupt police officers, barking dogs and fire hoses) they experienced. The leadership they provided means a lot. Folks, remember to live, laugh, and love...but most importantly take the time to watch, learn and grow...yourselves and others. Never forget to have patience as change takes time to come. Many blessings to you and yours. #osmosisthoughtz
